Canoe/Kayak Care

canoeMaterials/Manufacture

Because of its great flexibility Fortiflex, (the material your canoe is made from), offers exceptional shock-resistance and memory capacity. Heat, bad storage, transportation or prolonged exposure to the sun increase its flexibility, but may also induce slight warping of the hull. (This is in common with all leading makes).

Warping will disappear when the hull cools or is used. In any event, the craft's performance remains unaffected by this phenomenon.

The handles and eyes at the canoes extremities are for carrying and fastening the canoe onto a vehicle.

Make sure the canoe is firmly strapped down onto vehicle or trailer by bow and stern and at least two straps around body of canoe.

Before setting out, make sure all accessories have been removed from canoe and packed into vehicle so as to avoid damaging or losing them.

Launching

  • Before launching please ensure all passengers are wearing a Ce approved Personal Flotation Device.
  • Ensure all weight is properly distributed.
  • Make sure all straps and tie-downs have been removed.
  • Always step into the centre of boat never board by stepping onto the gunnel's.

Mooring

  • Always moor canoe away from sharp rocks and objects
  • Always moor your boat in water that is deep enough so that the bottom hull does not get damaged.
  • Care and Maintenance
  • The best way to clean your boat is to wash it with water. Never attempt to paint the hull as the paint will not stick.

Storage

  • The best way to store your boat is to sit it flat on two supports under the front and rear seat. If outside cover the boat with a tarpaulin.
  • Do not leave tight ropes or straps across the hull surface for long periods of time especially in hot weather.
  • The hull surface, like a car’s finish, will maintain its appearance better if the boat is not stored long term in bright sunshine.
